any ideas?
ok so i was checking out the new ncsoft game aion the other day on my older comp. And i had been getting heaps of lag/rubberbanding this was prevelant through the community. 2 days later i tried it again and everyone was saying the lag had gone but mine was still there. I loaded up aion on my new comp and it plays flawlessly.
The older comp was jumping and the screen literally freezing about every 5 seconds for anywhere from .5 of a secong to a full second (making playing painful as you could imagine) it also started having graphical issues such as shadows looking like big squares and smoke looking like squares floating into the air.
the graphics seem ok in the game now (not squares) but it still freezes and is very annoying. aion was running awesome on it until about a week ago in the betas no jumping etc.
My question is this I am ruinning an 8800gts i bought second hand from a mate about 4 months ago is the grphics card knackered or is it a comp issue. i am running 2 gig of ram and a 5200+ amd cpu which as i said was fine until now. I am think gpu but i dont wanna waste my money if u guys can help would be awesome thx in advance.

Check you card temps, there are several apps that do that with no problem.
I would also advise taking the card out of the computer and cleaning it, while you are at it check to make sure the cooler is properly attached and that the fan spins freely. That kind of think could be the result of over heating or drivers or both. Once the card is back in the computer and powered up, check to make sure the fan is working.
What driver are you using? After cleaning I would take a look at the driver version that shipped with the card and see what you are using. Sometimes it helps to backstep, sometimes it don't.

I doubt that an 8800 gts would have any trouble with Aion at "normal" settings and resolution - unless something is wrong with the GPU or another component... Everest Ultimate Free edition can check the temps on just about everything inside your case - download that and post the results here.

It's a little confusing as to which computer is giving you the trouble - the new one or some other one. But either way, you should be able to play Aion with an 8800gts. I can think of a few things to check..
- make sure all your drivers (sound, video, mobo, etc.) are up-to-date, as well as the OS.
- check your graphics settings in Aion and lower them if they are set too high.
- check that cooling of the video card and cpu is not a problem. Check that all fans are running and chase away the dust bunnies.
Edit - run a virus scan AND a spyware scan. Also, check to see if a virus scan may be running in the background.

the older comp is the only one i gave spec s on , here is a speedfan report please note the cpu usage kinda freaked me out so i rechecked it 3 times and it must have spiked for some reason as it runs aion and speedfan and sits on 8-14% cpu usage.
**update comp has rebooted itself after 3 occasions today once with the blue screen of death.

temps look ok to me - so is this happening only with Aion, or at anytime?

its only really happening in aion though it does it in gws to a lesser extent (perhaps the higher graphics req, textures etc for aion?). ok if i may explain myself a little better as to exactly what it does in game. Lets say another person and i were running side by side my character runs 3 steps and then laggs the person beside me does not therefore moving in front of me, the higher the population in the area the worse it becomes, flying is near impossible. (for those thinking internet connection, it isnt , my new comp is on the same network and has none of these problems) standing still has little noticable issue as you could imagine but even moving camera around laggs.
**please note settings on the card make no difference to this lag it can run the game at the highest settings or lowest settings and the lagg doesnt vary.
it hasnt been overly noticeable on other applications though i have noticed recently that it has been slow opening applications like IE i dismissed this thinking it was just that i have a faster comp now, making it look slower. When playing guildwars the graphics would occasionally distort and go all different colors etc simply minimising game and restoring would fix this problem though so i really dont know if thats a sign of the issue.

sounds like a driver issue, could be a "boinked" (Quaker's fave term) video card, but they "usually" show signs of that by overheating, which this doesn't seem to be doing. Anyhow, I would suggest that you uninstall your current drivers, use driver sweeper (guru3d.com) in safe mode to delete any traces of NVIDIA graphics drivers, and then in normal mode install the latest compatible drivers right from nvidia.com (which you downloaded previously of course).

would you still suggest this even though the comp is opening internet explorer very slowly? when i say slowly i mean i open a new tab and it takes around 10 seconds to show up it used to be instant.

yes, I would still suggest this, but one quick question first - have you defragged lately? a good through defrag will speed overall system performance up, and do a thorough "deep" virus scan too. By "deep" I mean check hidden files, subfolders and everything else...

A little note here
Aion as still beta( closed till launch/pre order name)
A very large ammount of people were experiancing lagg /rubberbanding...Aion is aware of it and have been trying to fix this issue...
There was a section on beta were you had to give details/ if you had lagg and they were fixing it asap
So by the time of official launch 23/25th most people hope this is resolved
Dont look at your pc as the main prob this is an Aion problem also

I wouldnt be looking at my comp as the lag issue if it had done the same thing on my new comp but it did not therefore eliminating the game causing the lag, yes aion had lag but it wasnt doing it on my new comp. when everyone stated "i have no lag today" and i still did causing me to investigate further.
AV is kaspersky but it had no issue until recently so kaspersky is out as well.
As aion is not playable (in NA at least) for a week is there some way of testing video card or comp lagg without playing? Guildwars isnt a fair test of a graphics card tbh u can near run it with onboard

you could download a Crysis benchmark and stress out your system with that and then compare your results with others with similar systems.... works for other games then Crysis too, as long as they have a benchmark available.

ok so I now have an update after trying all the suggested ideas i am still no further advanced. I have installed new ram (with no change) I have also installed a new 9600gt (not the latest but will run the game with ease) only to find the lag is the same. I have called a local comp shop ( I get the "bring it in" speech but i dont want it gone for weeks) so they suggested i back up the hdd and reformat suggesting this will fix the issue thoughts? btw i am currently backing up the files.

If you save all your files and don't mind re-installing some programs (and have a XP?Vista Disc on hand) re-formatting is a good way to go. It's generally what you do if all else has failed, but it ought to do the trick for you - if the problem is on your end and not Anet's.

ok so I have reformmatted my hdd and reinstalled my windows xp only to find i cannot connect to the internet. The question i have is how do i connect it to a home network? I am not sure if it was the comp I had the gateway on, but as you can tell i still have internet access , so i dont know if this matters. It tells me it is unable to connect. Is there a simple fix for this? Any help would be awesome thanks.
(it was working fine connecting to the net before i formatted )
